Chris, asking the Daily Kos community to sign a petition to change the USA election rules and to now give the election to Hillary is disgusting. Grow up. This kind of stuff only diminishes the credibility of anyone who participates on this site.
Interestingly we just had the baseball World Series. Perhaps we can change the rules and award the trophy to the team that had the most hits. Having the most runs would mean nothing. Or, maybe we can learn something from baseball fans.
In our vigorous presidential campaigns, everyone who runs is assumed to know both the law and the electoral voting rules. The Clinton and Trump campaigns both targeted states in a way that was the most productive to them. Obviously, the Trump team had a more effective strategy. Had the objective been to achieve the largest number of total votes, both campaigns would have worked towards that single objective. The campaigning would have been different and Trump, the better strategist, could still have won such a contest.
In any event, President Obama just said that Trump had won our democratic election fairly, and that it was time to grow up, realize that fact, and support the winner (paraphrasing).
A rigged democratic party primary process and campaign by our elite leaders gave us Hillary over Sanders. Now, its time to clean the rot in our leadership, and have the rank-and-file voters decide, who should be our next presidential candidate in an honest primary election. Obviously, our democratic party leaders are not suited for the job. We have now lost both Houses of Congress, and also the Supreme Court the a candidate the we completely demonized. We will continue to loose if we continue to ignore our own voters.
I have been a registered Democrat for 65 years, the liberal Democratic party that I have supported in the past has been destroyed by the Clintons and their like—just as Trumps has destroyed the Republican party. I hope that some new progressive figure like Sanders can rise up and clean the rot in the Democratic leadership.
And please, no more talk about the overturning of American elections on Daily Kos. This makes this site look like a fringe-lefty group that can only make the future worse for a progressive democracy. Grow up folks. Make some effort to look at all the reasons for the election lost—stop with the making of useless excuses, and works to create an improved version of a party that can beat right wingers.
While I hated the pro-military, pro-war record of both candidates, I did like that one of the candidates suggested term limitation legislation. That should be an easy thing for all of us to support.
